"My time had to end"
The South-African multi-billionaire who’s famously known for rebranding twitter has become more and more prominent in American politics.
Who would I be talking about? The richest man in the WORLD, Elon Musk, better known as the CEO of Tesla.
Many people have criticized his controversial position as an influential leader in the federal government. After all, what would a car CEO know about politics?
For context, Elon was appointed by President Trump as a “special government employee”, which simply means Musk was hired on a temporary basis for 130 days out of a year. Musk has retired from this position since this 130 day period has completed.
It is reported by NPR that Elon is not being paid for his work as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is a common trend among special government employees.
The goal of DOGE (not the coin!) is to maximize accountability and efficiency toward federal spending, as well as removing “wasteful” usage of taxpayer money. Although not an official government department, President Trump implemented this plan through an executive order aiming to reach such goals. DOGE, in its short life span however, has been extremely ineffective through its mass firings, minimal savings, and indignation from several states. Despite DOGE’s failures, it will live on without Musk as its overseer.
Officials have confirmed that Musk had left the administration on Wednesday night, with a bittersweet sense to his departure.
“I’ll continue to be visiting here, and be a friend and an adviser to the president”
An interview with Elon on CBS News highlighted how Musk was extremely disappointed with Trump’s new legislation, dubbed the “big beautiful bill.” In spite of its name, the bill aims to cut taxes, greatly increase spending, and crack down on immigration. This legislation contradicted the initiative of DOGE to reduce such spending.
While the future of DOGE remains uncertain and its broader economic impact is questionable, Elon Musk has decided to return to his roots as Tesla's CEO. In response to mounting Tesla boycotts, declining sales, and large political donations, Musk has pledged to refocus on the company. During a recent speech in Qatar, he emphasized his commitment to reigniting demand and to becoming the leader Tesla needs in the upcoming years.
